With our brand new forums, to get everyone signed up and to celebrate, what about a forum contest? I was thinking a caption contest! I would take a screenshot of GW and then put some blank speech bubbles on it. And then the person with the funniest dialogue for that picture wins! Or today Cookies showed me a picture she drew of her ele. How about getting people to draw their favourite character? I'm thinking the caption contest is the easiest for people and would possibly attract more entries. Something like this: And what people do, they post what captions they think would suit the picture. And we vote on the funniest I'd happily make it like a 10/20k pot

You'll need a group of judges, and an odd number of them so the votes don't end up tied...

Another forum event is the "Where am I?" contest. I see a version of this on the old forums, so I though I'd add it for consideration The basic concept is that the "host" posts a screen shot from in game here in the forums (under the thread for the game). Then the folks on the forum us the Personal Message system on the board to send in their guesses of exactly where the picture was taken. This means that the picture needs to have some unique landscape or building feature that distinguishes it from other similar scenes around that area of the game. As an example, let me show you the one Dies Fourth first used when he started this back when... s2d1.turboimagehost.com/t/222386_gw007.jpgNow when he was doing this, it was just for fun. However when my guild has done this we have a green or a mini pet up for grabs. If it's in an outpost/city we use the mini pet and have it out so you can see it in the screen shot. If' it's in an explorable area, we can drop the green item on the ground (or again, use a mini) so that it's part of the picture. Everyone who submits the correct answer (via PM on the forums) gets their name put into a drawing for the item pictured... But mostly, it's a fun test of game knowledge, not just a prize winning thing. If you had a correct guess your name is posted on the thread when the site of the picture is announced. Maybe we could give them pie or something small as a reward as well. But the payoff for the alliance is getting more forum members to check in here on a regular basis! anyway, this is one I've run and enjoyed doing. Let Toby and me know if you think it could fly.

Its where I will uplaod a picture. There will be speech bubbles drawn on like the example in the first post. And then, people will submit what they think is the funniest dialogue. And then the judges choose!
I am going to give a call out of judges. So far Kaz and Jimbo have volunteered, with me that makes an odd number. The first picture is secret but it is not the example picture >:}

Haha, are they just going to post their filled in pic with captions in this thread? Or a special thread? Also, how are we judging? Do we vote on all, then the top 5(or whatev) go through, then they do another? Or do we just vote on our favorite one? The problem with that is if we all like different ones, then we will just have a tie. Sorry, I know I'm always asking questions.

Hmm that does make it hard... how about a poll system? Closes after 1 week of polling. If there is a tie I create another poll with the tied people. Because really 3 people can't really be definitive on what is the funniest joke...

yeah, that could be hard but, one way we could do it so we dont have people all voting for one person then splitting the profit or whatever, us 3 could rate each poll 1-10 10 being highest, then tally up the scores, if there is a tie we give them a new screenie and they do that one. that way we have more variation in the voting as for only 3 people, i think three people with a good sense of humar is fine, we can rotate judges to, that we we can participate, other people can judge and the people that participate have a different variety of judges, giving them more chances to test their humor on other people : )

hmmm... maybe 5 then? we could twist some arms and use 5 guild leaders in the hopes of keeping favortism to a minimum. and we can rotate those so that sometimes a leader gets to play even (like you ever would want to hear my jokes) >.<
polls could work, but we really need to increase the forum traffic (hey another excuse to shout out "go check out the forums" 5 times a day!) do we restrict it to registered forum members, or would that cost us the votes of people who are a tad more casual (or register phobic?) I'm gonna sleep on the idea and hope that I make more sense tomorrow
